New Westminster Secondary School (NWSS) is one of British Columbia’s largest school replacement projects. The 22,000 m2, three-storey facility includes formal education components, career technical education spaces, a performing arts component, and physical education facilities. The school opened in Sep. 2020 and is LEED® Gold Standard Certified.

The new NWSS is being designed and built through a design-build process. Graham Design-Builders with KMBR Architects Planners Inc. were selected to design and build the new school. The building facade is composed of light color prefabricated concrete panels and dark color striped wooden panels. The concrete claddings of the school were made of Aalborg Extreme UHPC with a maximum dimension of 3.0m x 1.4m and 19mm thickness. Precaster Centura Building Systems mixed UHPC with glass fibre and fine black crushed aggregate to give a salt& pepper concrete finish with high compressive strength. Short demoulding time obtained by Aalborg Extreme UHPC, even in non-heated production facility. The panels have a stable geometry without warping situation.
