Office building in Diegem | Precast concrete paving slabs, benches and planters

New office building was opened in August 2021 near Brussels Airport. The complex was designed by assar llox architects, the surroundings by Urban Landscape commissioned by assar llox architects. 

The entrance area of the building has become a cozy, green and attractive space where people can rest and meet there. The curved irregular planters and benches produced by Urbastyle, based on Aalborg White cement, have softened the square space of the surrounding buildings. The concrete paving slabs harmoniously echo with landscape elements and building façade in color. 

The choice of precast concrete elements stemmed from the material’s flexibility in shapes, strength, ease of maintenance and resistance to wear. As individual units, these concrete elements can be assembled according to the designer's requirements and used for the raised planters, the seating elements and the paving, which brought unity to the design in shape and color. The wide choice of different colour pigments and finishes of the concrete material ensures a good fit between the building and the paving. The use of precast concrete elements has the additional advantage that execution times can be shortened, which contributes to an efficient implementation of the project.
