In Amsterdam-Zuidoost, The Ensemble introduces two towers rising 115 m and 98 m, designed by Van Belle & Medina and CONIX RDBM Architects as part of the area’s ongoing urban densification

Depart from conventional sandwich façades, a hybrid system has been applied, combining a timber backing structure with slender precast concrete panels as the outer skin. Supplied by mbX, the panels are made from glass-fibre-reinforced high-strength concrete using Aalborg White cement, enabling thinner elements while maintaining strength and durability. Three finishes include smooth, polished and sandblasted, contributing to the architectural expression.

The balconies, supplied by Microbeton, incorporate recycled EPS infill, reducing concrete volume by around 70% and lowering weight while improving environmental performance. Both façade and balcony elements use Aalborg White cement to ensure stable colour and consistent mixes, an important factor for maintaining visual quality in high-rise façades, notes Leon Kolster, director of Microbeton/Ferrocem
